Jean Valentine Abridged

From Brian Teare: Published in March of 2011 by Albion Books, in an edition of 100, on the occasion of Jean Valentine’s reading at Poets House (NYC) on March 31st. The text of the chapbook is a talk C. D. Wright gave as part of a 2010 AWP panel dedicated to the work of Jean Valentine. Each chapbook is accompanied by a broadside.

“When I read Jean Valentine’s poems, I fill up with questions, spill over with emotion. I cease, in some way, to think. At least the din of thinking dies back. … A great silence is anterior to what gets said, so that what is said, must by necessity be put down, expressed.”

—C.D. Wright
